In this third episode, we speak with Dr. Aikande Clement Kwayu about her work at the intersection of education, gender, policy, and social justice in Tanzania. Drawing on her research with organizations including UNESCO and leading universities, Dr. Kwayu discusses the impact of policies banning pregnant girls from school (nowadays repealed), the deeper causes of school dropout among both girls and boys, and the social, economic, and cultural barriers preventing children from accessing education. The conversation also explores the role of religion, poverty, and community attitudes in shaping educational opportunities, while highlighting the urgent need for systemic reform, awareness, and support for vulnerable students.
In this fourth episode, Hilda Mbatiah discusses the « Triple Threat » affecting adolescents in Kenya: teenage pregnancy, new HIV infections, and gender-based violence. She shares how these challenges fuel poverty, stigma, school dropout and poor health outcomes. Through community engagement, youth-friendly services, economic empowerment, and Positive Parenting programs, Hilda works to support vulnerable adolescents and their families. She also highlights the importance of gender-responsive communication in reducing stigma and victim-blaming.
